San Dimas Miners Awarded 21.6% Pay Rise

La Jornada, Thursday April 4, 2019

Workers in sections 21 and 22 of the mine located in San Dimas, Tayolita, Durango, have been awarded a 21.6% average pay rise, according to their union representatives (Sindicato de Trabajadores Mineros, Metalúrgicos, Siderúrgicos y Similares de la República Mexicana (translation: Union of Miners, Metallurgistsm Steelworkers and Similar of The Mexican Republic)).

The result came from a re-negotiation of the collective workers' contract between union representatives and the owners of the mine, First Majestic, which also agreed to award the 45 workers now at retirement age with a bonus of 1m Pesos (U$52,750) and those workers under 65 years of age with a bonus of 20,000 Pesos (U$1,050) for every year worked to date.
