Daily Mail: Schumer vows to keep fighting for witnesses at Trump's impeachment trial but says Hunter Biden has 'nothing to do with this' as Democrats prepare to make their case to remove the president

* Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Democrats will continue to push for the ability to call witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial
* He ruled out the potential of allowing Republicans to call Joe or Hunter Biden '[They] have nothing to do with this,' he asserted to reporters Wednesday
* Democrats have floated calling both acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and former national security adviser John Bolton as new witnesses
* Republicans want to hear from both Joe and hunter if witnesses are permitted
* Trump has said he wants to hear from the anonymous whistle-blower whose report led to the launch of the impeachment inquiry in the first place
* Democrats will have the opportunity to begin presenting their opening arguments against Donald Trump in the Senate impeachment trial Wednesday
* The seven managers will argue, in part, that witnesses should be called
* Congressman Adam Schiff is leading the team prosecuting Trump in the Senate
* The prosecution and defense debated on Tuesday the rules set forth by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for the trial

Chuck Schumer said Wednesday that Senate Democrats would continue to push for witnesses in Donald Trump's impeachment trial but ruled out the potential of Hunter Biden being one of those individuals called.

'Look the bottom line is that the witnesses should have something to do with and direct knowledge of the charges against the president,' The Senate minority leader told reporters gathered in the Capitol Wednesday morning.

'You know, we don't need to have witnesses that have nothing to do with this that are trying to distract Americans from the truth,' he said, suggesting that witnesses the president and Republicans have pushed for, including Hunter Biden, are not relevant to the case.
