The prison riot that left eight dead in the Castro Castro prison in Peru yesterday is far from the first example of prison disturbances and violent deaths in protests against Covid-19 in LatAm prisons: Your humble scribe has seen a big uptick in news stories of this ilk in the last month and five minutes on Google this morning was all it took for prison riot stories in Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Argentina and on and on and don't even get me started on the information and truth black hole known as the Mexican penal system. 

There have been dozens of riots, multiple deaths common, serious injuries to prisoners and guards a constant. And all about Covid-19, for example yesterday's in Peru began when a prisoner died of suspected Covid-19 in their jail cell and the authorities either refused or were extremely slow to take the body away.
