2 Congress Members Fly To Kabul Amid Evacuation Efforts
It’s a reminder of why America’s values—when we live up to them—matter to people all over the world.
— Seth Moulton (@sethmoulton) August 25, 2021
I’ve never talked to more public servants, from salty Marines to the most seasoned State Department officials, who came to tears describing their work.
This is what breaking promises looks like. Prove me wrong @POTUS - extend the 8/31 deadline and get our people out. We can’t change the past, but we still have time to make this last part right. @WHCOS https://t.co/uaRNhv6caF

* Reps Seth Moulton, (D) of Massachusetts, and Peter Meijer, (R) of Michigan, secretly traveled to Afghanistan to monitor evacuations efforts at Kabul
* Both congressmen called on President Joe Biden to extend the US withdrawal deadline past August 31 amid 'raw and visceral' scene taking place
* 'As veterans, we care deeply about the situation on the ground at Hamid Karzai International Airport,' both men said in a statement
* US officials reportedly 'furious' with the reps as it was done without coordination and allegedly diverted resources away from the evacuation effort
* Nearly 60,000 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan
Two US military vets who now serve as congressmen flew unannounced into Afghanistan to monitor the on going evacuation efforts as they called on President Joe Biden to extend the US withdrawal deadline past August 31.
Rep. Seth Moulton, a Democrat from Massachusetts, and Rep. Peter Meijer, a Republican from Michigan, flew in and out of Kabul airport on Tuesday, with both men adding that they boarded return flights with empty seats so as not to take away space from fleeing Americans and Afghans.
They appeared to condemn Joe Biden over his chaotic withdrawal from the war-torn country, and predicted the US would not be able to airlift everyone eligible to leave Afghanistan on time.

WNU Editor: Everyone is condemning this trip.
I have a different view.
Its two of them and not 20 congressional representatives.
They did not take their staff.
They are ex-military so they have an understanding on what is happening on the ground. They can take care of themselves, and I am sure they are in no one's way.
This is a terrible debacle and I sincerely believe it is important to have at least one representative from Congress to be a witness to it.
The more eyes on the ground and reporting back on what is happening is never a bad thing.
