U.S. Allies In The Middle East Want The Biden Administration To Come Up With A Strategy To Contain Iran

CNN: American allies in the Middle East pile pressure on Biden to come up with strategy for containing Iran

(CNN)President Joe Biden is under increasing pressure from the US' key Middle East allies to come up with a viable plan to constrain Iran, with hopes for reviving the 2015 nuclear deal fading as Biden prepares for his first trip as President to Israel and Saudi Arabia next month.

On a visit to Washington earlier this month, Saudi Arabia's Deputy Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman -- Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's brother -- told Biden's senior national security officials that he was pleased the US-Saudi relationship was getting back on track, sources familiar with the discussions said.

But he expressed concerns that the US had still not articulated a comprehensive strategy for dealing with Iran's nuclear ambitions, ballistic missile arsenal and support for regional militant groups, the sources said.

And the administration has not yet told its allies, including Saudi Arabia, what a possible "Plan B" would be should the nuclear talks fail, regional officials said.

WNU Editor: My read on the above CNN post is that these two CNN reporters were fed a story by US officials to say that the Saudis are happy that relations are improving, and that the Saudi government is dependent on the Biden administration to articulate a strategy to counter Iran.

What I see is actually a fractured U.S. - Saudi relation ship, further compounded by President Biden's open and public dislike of the Saudi Crown Prince Salman.

A commentator mentioned over the weekend that Saudi Arabia has a better relationship with Israel than with the current US government, and considering the rhetoric that I have been hearing since the start of the Biden administration, believe it.

And when it comes to Iran, the Saudis (and Israelis) are making it very clear that they want the Biden administration to adopt a more aggressive approach towards Iran. A change of policy that many are now openly starting to worry will lead to this .... The Next War? (Powerline).
