Axios: Behind the Curtain: Rattled U.S. government fears wars could spread
This is a new column by Axios CEO Jim VandeHei and co-founder Mike Allen, based on regular conversations with White House and congressional leaders, CEOs, and top technologists.
Never before have we talked to so many top government officials who, in private, are so worried about so many overseas conflicts at once.
Why it matters: We don't like to sound dire. But to sound a siren of clinical, clear-eyed realism: U.S. officials say this confluence of crises poses epic concern and historic danger.
Behind the scenes: Officials tell us that inside the White House, this was the heaviest, most chilling week since President Biden took office just over 1,000 days ago.
*Former Defense Secretary Bob Gates — who ran the Pentagon under presidents of both parties, George W. Bush and Barack Obama — tells us America is facing the most crises since World War II ended 78 years ago.

WNU Editor: You reap what you sow. You only have to look at the past week when President Biden went to the Middle East to see how US foreign policy has gone off the rails and is in fact escalating tensions and fear that other parties will become involved in the Israel - Hamas war.
I am still shaking my head on how much of a disaster this trip was.
What I saw this week was a disengaged US President who brought no ideas or vision on how to de-escalate the growing crisis in the Middle East. But his administration was certainly busy. Ordering a massive deployment of military forces to the region with the stated goal of aiding Israel coupled with a massive request for monies and arms to be sent to Israel. The Arab world sees this, and you can take this to the bank, this type of policy (if it continues) will only end with America's Arab allies in the Middle East looking elsewhere for new partners and alliances. And as for America's enemies, they will take advantage of this and will strike (as they are doing now) against US military bases and assets in the region.
And then there was President Biden's focus on the Russia - Ukraine war in his speech to the nation on Thursday night. Labeling Putin and Hamas as one and the same, and then again making a request for a massive arms package to Ukraine (calling this a smart investment) while sending Ukraine long range ATACMS. No talk about looking for an end to the war. Just more escalation and personal threats.
And if that was not enough, we now have a new request for even more US military support of Taiwan, breaking promises to Beijing that Washington would respect the "One China" policy.
But what is scary is that a large number of major world leaders do not want to talk with the US President. Even US allies in the Middle East like Saudi Crown Prince Salman and the leaders of Egypt and Jordan do not want to talk to him.
Sighhh ....
I said it before and I will say again. If current trends continue and the Biden administration wins the White House in 2024. I will be seeing a major war where US forces will be directly involved.
